Why Durga?
Well, it was almost "The Magical Mischief Tour,"
but considering that our cat Mischief isn't known for her
gregarious personality, "The Durga Tour" was a much
better name in comparison.
But in all seriousness, the Hindu goddess Durga is considered
by most to be a more benevolent version of Kali, the Destroyer
Mother, crossed with Lakshmi, goddess of fate and luck. She
embodies the strength, power, and raw femininity of Kali,
combined with the quiet beauty, thoughtfulness, and serendipitous
nature of Lakshmi---not unlike the artform of Gothic Belly
Dance! And so we hope to spread knowledge and awareness of
our art, while bringing together communities and celebrating
the dance we all love, in all of its forms.
